Yesterday, I wrote this title in Word and within a couple of minutes, I came across a Twitter update, announcing the retirement of Paul Krugman, a famous opinion columnist.

Who is an opinion columnist or an opinion writer?

As the phrase goes, an opinion writer expresses an opinion. Now, everyone can have an opinion, so why do you want to read an opinion of a particular writer like Paul Krugman?

Although Paul Krugman is known mostly for his faulty economic predictions, people seriously read him for multiple reasons. He is a renowned economist. People take what he says seriously. He has an opinion on an array of diverse topics, including economics and politics.

Opinion writing is mostly about, opinion. You know a lot about a topic, you can write about the topic, and people take you seriously.

More than facts and data, you express opinion. Of course, if you use facts and data, people expect them to be correct…
