Coronavirus: US and Australia close borders to Chinese arrivals

Countries around the world have closed their borders to arrivals from China, as officials work to control the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

The US and Australia said they would deny entry to all foreign visitors who had recently been in China, where the virus first emerged in December.

Earlier, countries including Russia, Japan, Pakistan and Italy announced similar travel restrictions.

Coronavirus update: 95 of 324 Indians who arrived from China moved to ITBP camp for observation

Ninety-five out of the 324 Indians, who arrived in the special Air India flight from Wuhan, China at Delhi’s IGI Airport today, have been moved to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp at Chhawla camp in West Delhi for medical observation.

Vivek Pandey, IBP Spokesperson, said that ITBP had arranged facilities for hosting the Indians from the airport to the camp. The paramilitary force had also made arrangements of around 600 beds at the camp as a quarantine facility for families coming from China, he added.

New science model finds coronavirus numbers are significantly too low, doubles in under a week

Even more alarming is the fact that the disease doubles in the number of infections every 6.4 days, the experts found.

That means, if the scientists are correct, more than 150,000 people living in and around Wuhan are infected with the disease.

What that means for the rest of the world is uncertain. However, given the lengthy incubation period, and the fact that the disease has already undergone genetic mutations, the official numbers likely do not reflect the actual number of people infected with coronavirus.

Coronavirus: Death toll rises as virus spreads to every Chinese region

The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has risen to 170, and a confirmed case in Tibet means it has reached every region in mainland China.

Chinese health authorities said there were 7,711 confirmed cases in the country as of 29 January.

Infections have also spread to at least 15 other countries.
